Ridgebury has purchased the FRUGAL system for one of its controllable-pitch-propeller (CPP) MR tankers.
FRUGAL is a Danish company that developed an AI-based propulsion technology system which continuously collects information regarding weather data, speed, fuel consumption, RPM, pitch, draft, trim, fuel consumption and torque. It uses this data to optimize the pitch of the propeller. This AI based algorithm dynamically learns the ship behavior and performance and automatically changes the pitch of the propeller to minimize fuel consumption.
“We are targeting 5% reduction in CO2 emissions in 2023,” says Luca Bruga, Ridgebury’s Fleet Performance Manager, “and the FRUGAL system will play an important role in achieving that objective.”
